French trade deficit expands to USD3.7b in January

(MENAFN) Customs figures showed that France's trade deficit surged to USD3.7 billion in January, driven by sluggish exports, mainly of aeronautic sales, Xinhua reported.

In a monthly report, French customs said French trade gap widened by USD471.3 million in January 2015, due to sharp decrease in Airbus sales and feeble pharmaceutical exports.

The country's total sales abroad stood at USD40.34 billion, losing 2.5 percent after they had registered positive trend in December, while the value of imports totaled USD44.5 billion, down by 1.3 percent.

At the end of January, aero group Airbus garnered USD1.89 billion after selling 23 aircraft versus 36 worth USD3.24 billion a month earlier, the custom data showed.
