Qatar- QRC signs deals with Tajik, Kyrgyz Red Crescent societies

(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Qatar Red Crescent (QRC) has signed two memorandums of understanding (MoUs) with Red Crescent Society of Tajikistan (RCST) and Red Crescent Society of Kyrgyzstan (RCSK).

The deals were signed during a QRC delegation's visits to Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan to explore cooperation opportunities in humanitarian action, diplomacy and capacity building.

The delegation comprised Saleh bin Ali Al Mohannadi, Secretary-General, QRC, Dr Fawzi Oussedik, Head, International Relations and International Humanitarian Law, QRC, and Ahmed Ismail Al Zyara, a QRC volunteer.

In Tajikistan, the delegation held meetings with RCST officials, the head of mission of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, the Minister of Health, Salimzoda Nusratullo, and Head of mission of International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), Andrea Paque.

They discussed common humanitarian action, mainly migration, refugees, health and disaster preparedness. The team visited humanitarian projects executed by RCST, including Children's Cancer Hospital, Disabled Children's Hospital, Psycho-mental Children's Shelter, a water and sanitation project in Dachak, Social Charitable Fund of Tajikistan, an elementary school set up under the Community-Based Institutional Development Programme, and Migration Training Centre.

In Kyrgyzstan, QRC officials met RCSK Deputy Director, Marat Kachkynbekov, World Assembly of Muslim Youth in Bishkek, the mayor of Bishkek, the deputy speaker of parliament, and Minister of Social Development, Bazarbaev Kudaibergen Bazarbaevich.

They visited RCSK projects, the refugee mobile clinic settlement, National Chest Hospital, a project of Saudi Red Crescent Authority, National Tuberculosis Centre, a hospice, a retirement home, and Children's Crisis Centre.

Al Mohannadi signed five-year MoUs to constitute a legal framework for strengthening relations; embodying the spirit of solidarity within International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement; improving the quality of services provided by both parties; coordinating future activities such as community-based healthcare and first aid, disaster preparedness, fundraising and resource mobilisation, youth and volunteering management, capacity building, and development initiatives; and exchange of visits and experience, under the Seville Agreement, the Fundamental Principles of the Movement, and resolutions of international conferences.

Both sides will ensure that support provided between the parties is mutually beneficial to deliver more efficient and effective services according to the respective mandates; ensure that projects and programmes serve the needs of the most vulnerable people and that gender, environmental sustainability, and linkage between relief, rehabilitation, and development are integrated into them; promote understanding and cooperation between national societies, ensuring sufficient exchange of general information on strategies, policies, and activities; and work to develop possibilities for volunteers and staff to participate in training camps and other events.
