USD 306 mln from OFID for sustainable development in 30 countries


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) The OPEC Fund for International Development (OFID) has endorsed fresh soft loans worth UD 306 million to support sustainable development in 30 developing partner countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America, it was announced on Thursday.

The major part of these loans, USD 201 million, will go to public sector transport, water and sanitary projects, OFID Director General Sulaiman Jasser Al-Harbash added in a press statement.

Five more operations were approved with total USD100 million for the private sector and financing trade, besides eight loans worth USD 6 million for education, health and solar energy programs, Al-Harbash noted.

USD 1.2 million will be channeled to the Palestinians through the UN for reconstruction of about 140 Gaza houses damaged by military operations on the Strip.
