His Highness Amir to attend Egyptian development conference


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah is expected to attend the Egypt Economic Development Conference (EEDC) due to start at Egypt's Sharm El-Sheikh on Friday.

Held over three days, the event will focus on attracting direct investments into the Egyptian economy which has been negatively struck by a series of political and social crises.

Around 80 nations, 23 regional and international organisations, including Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED), and a large number of international businesses have confirmed their attendance, Egypt's Foreign Ministry earlier revealed.

Global bodies include the European Union, the UN Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund and the Geneva-based non-profit organization the World Economic Forum, to name a few.

After a speech by Abdelfatah Al-Sisi, the nation's leader, Prime Minister Ibrahim Mahlab, Minister of Planning Ashraf El-Araby, Finance Minister Hani Qadri and Central Bank Governor Hisham Ramez will together present economic reform plans.

Minister of Investment Ashraf Salman will chair a consultative session on Egypt's investment climate, followed by talks on ensuring energy resources for development purposes, with a number of investment agreements into this sector expected to follow.

The identification of strategic sectors for investment will be carried out by Minister of International Cooperation Naglaa Al-Ahwany, followed a whole session dedicated to the Suez Canal, as a main factor for Egypt's economy and international trade relations.

The third day and final day will discuss the stock market, policies aimed at improving social cohesion for the sake of economic development, tackling unemployment and technology and innovation.
