7 masked men set police checkpoint ablaze in Menufiya

(MENAFN- Daily News Egypt) Masked assailants torched a police checkpoint in Menufiya governorate Wednesday stealing arms and assaulting policemen.

Eyewitnesses said that seven masked men attacked Al-Kassed checkpoint at dawn tying up the three policemen who were at the checkpoint, stealing their weapons before setting the checkpoint ablaze, state newspaper Al-Ahram reported.

Assailants fled the area and local residents managed to rescue the tied policemen from the fire.

Several militant attacks targeted police and army facilities and personnel throughout the country since the start of March, the most deadly of them left three army conscripts killed in Sinai's Sheikh Zuweid.

On 5 March, a cabinet shuffle saw minister of interior Mohamed Ibrahim replaced. The newly appointed minister Magdy Abdel Ghaffar is expected to tackle the continuing bombings and attacks that target both security personnel and civilians.

Abdel Ghaffar visited Tuesday a number of checkpoints and police stations in Cairo and Giza, demanding officers and policemen to exert more effort and raising alert levels.
