Taiwan's exports down 6.7 percent in February

(MENAFN) Taiwan's exports fell in February from a year ago due to fewer working days during the Chinese Lunar New Year holiday and lower global oil prices, Xinhua reported.

Exports fell 6.7 percent on-year to USD19.9 billion in February, while imports lost 22.4 percent to hit USD5.3 billion, a surplus of USD4.6 billion in the month, customs data showed.

For the first two months, exports dipped 1.3 percent from previous year to USD45 billion, while imports dropped 13.2 percent year on year to USD35.6 billion, local finance authorities said.

Officials attributed the decline partly to lower global crude oil prices, of which imports were down 58.9 percent in the period to USD179.24 million, accounting for 61.4 percent of the total decline.
