China's PPI down 4.8 percent in February

(MENAFN) The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) said China's producer price index (PPI), a main gauge of inflation, dropped by a record of 4.8 percent in February, Xinhua reported.

The decline was driven by weak domestic demand and marked a drop from January's 4.3 percent and December's 3.3 percent, posting its steepest fall since March 2012, the NBS said.

On a monthly basis, however, China's PPI contracted 0.7 percent last month, narrowing from 1.1 percent decline in January due to an improvement in the factory-gate prices in oil processing.
