(MENAFN- The Peninsula) A group of professionals from Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC)'s Audiology & Balance Unit and Ophthalmology Department were honoured recently for becoming the first set of graduates in specialized diploma programs in Optometry and Audiology.
The graduation ceremony was attended by Mohamed Mubarak Al Noimi, Chief of Communications and Chief of Staff at the Managing Director's Office, who presented certificates to some of the graduates, including nine graduates in Clinical Audiology Diploma program and 11 in Auditory Verbal Diploma program.
Other officials present at the celebration were Dr Abdul Salam Al Qahtani, Consultant at HMC and Acting Chairman of ENT, Dr Omar Al Hakim, Head of Cochlear Implants Section at HMC, André Dubois, and Canadian Ambassador to Qatar, and Tim Paterson from University of Toronto, Canada.
Dr Khalid Abdul Hadi, Head of Audiology and Balance Unit and Director of the program said, "Qatar is a leading country in this field, as these specialties, in addition to Dizziness Rehabilitation Diploma Program, are very rare in the Middle East and the Gulf region. The programs are aimed at screening, early detection and early treatment of auditory disorders to prevent listening disability."
Optometry Diploma Program, launched in 2011, aims to develop qualified assistant optometrists as the program provides theoretical and practical knowledge in addition to intensive training. The program comprised of 35 credit academic hours, including the postgraduate practical training aimed to develop skillful, highly qualified assistant optometrists, to undertake optometric screening for babies and children.
