(MENAFN) Oman Power and Water Procurement Company (OPWP) is set to issue a Request for Proposals (RfP) to a number of international consortiums to compete for building the Sultanate's largest Independent Power Project (IPP), Oman Daily Observer reported.
IPP is sized at a remarkable 2,600 megawatts (MW) with a potential to be scaled up to a mammoth 3,200 MW. The new IPP will rank among the biggest green-field power schemes currently in operation in the Middle East. The contract award is expected to be announced in the fourth quarter of this year.
OPWP is set to issue RfPs to international developers who met the procurer's prequalification criteria to participate in a competitive tender for a license to develop, finance, design, engineer, construct, own, operate and maintain two gas fired power plants.
According to OPWP , the two power plants will boast a combined net capacity between 2,500-2,650 MW at reference site conditions. Natural gas will be the primary fuel for electricity generation at either plant, with fuel oil used as a back-up option.
