12 Dead in Land Sliding, Roof Collapse Incidents in Afghanistan


(MENAFN- QNA) Twelve persons, including ten members of a family, have been died after the roof of a house collapsed in Dara-e-Noor district of Nangarhar province in eastern Afghanistan, officials said Sunday.
The governor’s spokesman, Ahmad Zia Abdulzai, told (Pajhwok) Afghan News that 10 people including women and children of a family died when the roof caved-in on Saturday night.
He said the roof of house fell down following incessant rain in the area. Zabit Aamir, a provincial council member, said the incident happened in Shimal valley.
It has been raining for the past few days amid heavy intermittent snowfall. Most of the victims, he said were children while a woman was among the injured.
He demanded the government to send aid to the region urgently. Most of the residents of the locality had poor economy and live in houses vulnerable to rain and floods.
A day earlier, eight of a family also lost their lives in a similar incident in Sherzad district of the province.
Separately, two people were died as a result of landslide in Badghis province.
Masaab Hamid, director Natural Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), said the incident took place in Ghiraq Shura area of Maqur district last night.
He said two members of a family died when a mountain slide hit one corner of a house in the area.
Nearly 300 people have lost their lives and tens of others injured in recent snowfalls, avalanches, floods, land sliding and other natural disasters in different parts of the country.
