(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) A motorist's drunken stupor in a Sharjah tunnel left a woman dead and nine others injured late on Friday night.
The deceased, a 23-year-old woman from Comoros Island, was in the passenger seat of the car being driven by the drunk motorist, an Emirati identified as O.K., 21. The police said he zigzagged through the tunnel, crashing into cars left, right and centre and hit six cars. The motorist himself is recuperating in a critical condition at a city hospital.
Nine motorists received moderate to serious injuries in the accident that took place at 1am in the Culture Tunnel.
The police had to divert the traffic into the tunnel for two hours as they cleared the crash site.
