Philippines' Army Kills Seven Rebels


(MENAFN- Saudi Press Agency) A military operation in southern Philippines has killed seven rebels, the army said on Saturday. Twenty-six soldiers and rebels were also injured in Friday's violence, the army added.
Army spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Harold Cabunoc said the clashes were in Datu Salibo and Datu Piang, two towns in the province of Maguindanao. Seven members of the BIFF group were confirmed dead, he said. He could not confirm reports from locals that as much as 14 rebels were killed, dpa reported.
Cabunoc said 13 soldiers and 13 rebels were wounded and four rebels were captured.
About 75,000 people have fled their homes since the army launched its operation against the rebels in Maguindanao and North Cotobato provinces last month.
