MidEast carriers register 11 percent growth in passenger traffic

(MENAFN) Middle East airlines logged the best year-on-year traffic growth in January, marking an 11.4 percent increase, according to the International Air Transport Association (IATA) reports, Arabian Business reported.

Middle Eastern carriers' capacity increased 13.3 percent and load factor dropped by 1.3 percent in January, further solidifying the region's economies and showing more signs of improvement.

On the global level, IATA logged traffic growth of 4.6 percent compared to January 2014, marking the slowest start to the year compared to 2014 full-year growth of 5.9 percent.

"January traffic did not maintain the rate of growth attained in 2014; nevertheless, we are seeing healthy albeit slightly slower growth in the demand for air services," IATA's director general and CEO said in a statement.
