Qatar- Student volunteers attend HMC workshops on career planning

(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Hamad Medical Corporation's (HMC) Health Professions Awareness and Volunteering Programmes recently organised workshops for student volunteers.

Held under the theme 'Plan for Your Future,' the workshops aimed to increase their awareness about the importance of professional skills development and train them in planning for future careers.

Balqees Al Khazraji, Director, Health Professions Awareness and Volunteering Programmes, HMC, said the workshops provided students with insights into healthcare professions and the work environment pertaining to them.

"Topics related to job planning activities such as writing curriculum vitae, attending interviews with employers, effective communication, addressing audience, and types of personality and how they relate to teamwork were covered," she said. One workshop was held in collaboration with Bedaya Centre for Entrepreneurship and Career Development and led by Mohammad Khalifa, a professional development expert. He discussed techniques for enhancing self-confidence, achieving goals, utilising personal resources, tolerance, and rules of success.

Another workshop was held in conjunction with Hamad International Training Centre which trained students in dealing with medical emergencies such as performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation, giving first aid, ensuring safety of first responders in an emergency, dealing with injuries involving bleeding, obstetric emergencies, nervous and musculoskeletal system injuries, and human anatomy.

It aimed to create a team of community volunteers who would respond and help in disasters or emergencies.

Another workshop saw HMC's Engineering Department familiarise students with support service careers at HMC, such as electrical and electronics engineering, water treatment service, HAVAC, maintenance and medical gases services.

Students also took part in a first-of-its-kind multi-disciplinary nursing workshop organised with Ambulatory Care Services and led by Maitha Al Bouainain, Executive Director, Community Affairs and Patient Engagement, Ambulatory Care Services.

Participants in the nursing workshop learned about obesity, optometry, diabetic screening, paediatric first aid, nose bleeding, prevention of infection, and vital signs. It also included a trip to Ambulatory Care Service clinics to familiarise students with the work environment.
