Saudi- Best safety standards in schools ordered
(MENAFN- Arab News) Education Minister Dr. Azzam Al-Dakhil has directed all educational officials in different parts of the Kingdom to be vigilant in applying the best safety standards in schools.
The minister also ordered safety and security departments in all regions to carry out field inspections within school playgrounds and related facilities to ensure their safety Mubarak Al-Osaimi spokesman of general education at the ministry said.
The minister's remarks came following the death of a 4th-grade student at a Jazan school when a crossbar fell on him last week.
The minister stressed that physical training teachers should monitor their students and should not leave them unattended while they practice sports activities.
He also called for the activation of the school risk report system (SRRS) which would see schools linked to the alamn.net site in this regard.
In a related development Majid Al-Harbi director general of safety and security department at the Ministry of Education said that the government plans to replace metal posts in school playgrounds with plastic ones to avoid incidents of deaths and injuries arising from such situations.
He said that the ministry has introduced an electronic system to receive reports on similar incidents whether coming from the school itself the staff or from the parents.
The repeated occurrence of injuries arising from the school playgrounds has become a contentious issue that has prompted the Safety and Security Department to look for solutions including using plastic crossbars instead of iron he said.
