Omani riders claim three gold medals in Abu Dhabi


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Omani riders stamped their superiority at the tent pegging event of the ninth H H Sheikh Sultan bin Zayed al Nahyan Equestrian Festival in Abu Dhabi UAE on Tuesday.

Oman bagged with a total of five medals including three gold and two bronze medals on the opening day of the two-day competition. Rider Omar al Hassani won two gold medals and a bronze while Zaid al Saidi collected a gold and a bronze medal.

A total of seven riders from Oman are taking part in the event.

Besides the medal winners the other riders of the sultanate team are Hisham al Bakri Yasser al Hassani Ishaq al Masroori Salem al Harthy and Nasser al Hashmi. Mohammed al Malki is accompanying the team as its coach.

Hassani said 'I am proud to be part of the national team that is participating at the prestigious equestrian festival. I am happy to have contributed to bringing glory for Oman.'

After the individual events concluded on Tuesday the team events are scheduled for Wednesday night to be held under the patronage of H H Sheikh Sultan bin Zayed al Nahyan the president's representative chairman of the Emirates Heritage Club.

Also attending the festival are Mohammed Issa al Fairuz chairman of the International Tent Pegging Federation (ITPF) and Juma al Mashaikhi secretary of the Oman Equestrian Federation. The festival is being held from February 24-March 14.
