Brazil's industrial output down 5.2 percent in January


(MENAFN) Brazil's industrial production dropped 5.2 percent in January over the same month a year earlier, despite a 2 percent rise for the month alone, The Peninsula Qatar reported.

The government statistics agency IBGE said that production in the country had been falling since last March, while it dropped by 3.5 percent over the twelve-month period.

In 2014, Brazil registered the fourth consecutive year of economic growth, with its public account going into deficit and unemployment rate rising from its historically low level.

Latin-American's largest economy's gross domestic product (GDP) registered a drop last year, while central bank's latest forecast predicted a decline of 0.58 percent for this year.
