(MENAFN- Emirates News Agency (WAM)) The 10th edition of the region's wedding fair, The Perfect Wedding Show, got under way yesterday at the Expo Centre Sharjah.
Catering for the surging wedding market, the show features some of the most sought-after wedding service providers, bringing together celebrity designers, couturiers, decor specialists and caterers.
The four-day show was opened by Khawla Al Serkal, Director of Sharjah Ladies Club and continues until Saturday March 7th.
"The Perfect Wedding Show has completed a decade of unmatched success. We have succeeded in positioning the show as a vibrant platform for wedding planners, retailers, boutiques and others to directly offer their products and services to a highly receptive consumer base," said Saif Mohammed Al Midfa, CEO, Expo Centre Sharjah.
According to the latest data available with the UAE National Bureau of Statistics, there has been a nearly 10 percent increase in the number of marriages registered in the UAE in 2013 as against 2012 as the number of marriages went up from 14,934 to 16,441.
Nearly half of the total number of marriages that took place were between Emirati men and women, while expatriate couples accounted for 6,023.
Wedding service providers and industry experts said the figure may have seen double-digit growth in 2014 as well, and will go up in the coming years as the wedding industry is preparing for a big leap in business in the wake of regional economies getting ready to host mega events like World Expo 2020.
