Australia's retail sales edge up 0.4 percent in January


(MENAFN) According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, the country's retail sales expanded slightly by 0.4 percent in January, marking a double growth from December's figures, Xinhua reported.

Department store spending was the highest with turnover, surging 2.2 percent, while the largest contributor to sales growth was clothing, footwear and accessories, up 0.7 percent.

Spending at cafes, restaurants and takeaway services also went up by 2 percent, while food spending declined 0.7 percent. However, online retail turnover made up 2.8 percent of the total sales.
