Emirates airline contributes USD7.6b to EU economy

(MENAFN) The European Union said that Emirates airline contributes USD7.6 billion to the single-coin bloc's economy amid criticism that government grants Gulf carriers unfair advantages, Gulf Daily News reported.

Emirates' operations, which include some 220 unique connections to European destinations, supported 85,100 jobs across the EU in the 2013-2014 fiscal year, a study by Frontier Economics revealed.

The cargo is the biggest operator of the Airbus A380 superjumbo, deliveries of which over the same period supported an additional 41,000 jobs and added USD3.8 billion to gross domestic product.

The airline first flew to Europe in 1987, since then, it has grown to 350 passenger flights a week from Europe. A group of US airlines complained that major Gulf carriers received USD44.7 billion in subsidies.
