QPMC seeks stable infrastructure material prices

(MENAFN- Gulf Times) Qatar Primary Materials Company (QPMC) has said it seeks to "stabilise the prices of primary infrastructure materials and establish quality standards for aggregates and sand" in the long-term as part of its role in the country's infrastructure development.

"QPMC's plant capacity provides 1,000 tonnes of washed sand an hour with annual production sales of capacity of 6mn tonnes, along with a stock of 1mn and an unlimited supply capacity of sand dune with 1,200 truckloads per day," QPMC director (Operations) Navjot Singh said during a presentation at the 18th Gulf Engineering Forum at the St Regis Hotel.

Also, Singh said QPMC plans to provide cement silos at the company's gabbro berths to store and discharge more than 2mn tonnes of imported cement annually to meet expected increase in demand.

He noted that the company also has plans to develop gabbro quarries outside Qatar, as well as provide the sea logistic supply chain. QPMC plans to deliver comprehensive solutions for the transport, storage, and delivery of key primary materials in Qatar, Singh added.

During the forum, Singh highlighted QPMC's role in infrastructure development of both Qatar and the region by providing primary materials for both the public and private sector.

His presentation also showcased QPMC's four divisions, namely Port Management, Sahara Washed Sand, Nijian Sand, and Logistics & Supply Chain.

He also focused on the company's improved performance, operational locations, jetty stock yards in both Ras Laffan and Lusail, its Mesaieed Port, Njian Sand (Dune Sand) and Sahara Sand Plant (for washed sands), and emphasised on its strategic stock pile.

Singh said QPMC focuses on providing efficient port service at the gabbro berths and develop them for handling larger import volumes of materials.

"We aim to deliver the capability to design, develop, and operate jetties at developers' request for government projects. We also store a strategic stockpile of aggregates for the government in Mesaieed and deliver washed sand which will regulate the market for dune sand in Qatar," he said.
After Singh's presentation, a senior QPMC delegate visited the exhibition held on the sidelines of the forum, which witnessed the participation of the Gulf engineering societies and a number of sponsors and companies.
The 18th Gulf Engineering Forum gathered more than 40 theme papers presented by specialists in the infrastructure sector and senior engineers in the GCC countries.
