Newmont Asked To Clarify Cooperation With Freeport
JAKARTA March 3 2015 – Extended export recommendation for PT Newmont Nusa Tenggara still expects for the confirmation of its cooperation with PT Freeport Indonesia for national copper smelter construction with capacity of 2 million tons in Gresik East Java.
Director General of Mineral and Coal Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources R. Sukhyar said the extended recommendation for export permit would expire on March 18 2015.
He said Newmont actually has proposed for extension but until now he still expected for clarification on the cooperation to build smelter.
“We still expect for clarification about the cooperation between Newmont and Freeport is it true that Newmont will supply and invest? If it is true we will extend the permit” he said Monday (3/2).
He argued the cooperation is stated in MoU which expired on March 30 2014.
Indonesia Business Daily notes the government indeed would extend the permit.

Sukhyar said the cooperation was still valid i.e. Newmont would supply concentrate to Freeport’s smelter. Read more…
