FTSE 100 higher early on after US records

(MENAFN- ProactiveInvestors) London’s leading equity gauge added 15 points in early deals after another record session on Wall Street.

The Nasdaq went above the key 5000 level for the first in 15 years on Monday while the Dow Jones made a new intraday record.

In London the FTSE 100 opened 0.2% higher and was trading at 6955 early on.

Like its US peers the index has also been breaking records recently and registered a fresh all-time high during yesterday's session.

Industrial equipment rental firm Ashtead Group (LON:AHT) was top of the chart this morning after raising its full-year guidance.

House builder Taylor Wimpey (LON:TW.) was also on the rise after posting higher pre-tax profit and doubling its dividend.

Shares in commodities giant Glencore (LON:GLEN) fell 3% to 291p despite the firm reporting a net income of US$4.29bn higher than analyst estimates. The company has taken an impairment charge of US$1.1bn on lower commodity prices.

Deutsche Bank analysts took the shine off silver specialist Fresnillo (LON:FRES) with a downgrade. Shares lost 15p to 795p.

Barclays (LON:BARC) was also at the wrong end of the FTSE 100 after it put aside an extra £750mln for foreign exchange rigging fines dragging full-year profits down.
