S. Korea's consumer prices up 1 percent in February

(MENAFN) A government report showed that South Korea's consumer prices grew less than 1 percent for the third consecutive month in February, the slowest pace since mid-1999, Yonhap News reported.

The country's consumer price index (CPI) edged up by 0.5 percent last month from a year earlier, down from the 0.8 percent growth reached in December and January, Statistics Korea said.

Core inflation, which excludes unstable oil and food prices, increased 2.3 percent and was up 0.1 percent from January, marking the second straight month that core inflation rose by more than 2 percent.

The latest data showed prices for farm produce dropping 2.3 percent on-year with utility costs backtracking 2.5 percent. Overall farm, meat and fisheries prices rose 1.1 percent in February.
