Qatar's Amjad in semi-finals


(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Syed Azlan Amjad of Qatar will take on Sajad Zareian of Iran in the semi-finals of the Under-19 category of the Qatar Junior Open squash tournament.

Yesterday at the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex, Amjad defeated Marcus Sim Wei Jie of Malaysia 11-6, 11-7, 7-11, 11-5 in the quarter-finals while Zareian got the better of Armenia's Ismail Rauf 11-7, 8-11, 12-10, 11-3.

The winner of the Amjad-Zareian clash will take on the winner of the all-Pakistan clash between top seed Muhammad Asim Khan and Israr Ahmad.

Muhammad defeated compatriot Ahsan Ayaz Khan 11-3, 11-3, 11-5 while Israr got the better of Abdul Basit also of Pakistan.

The final will be played today along with finals of the Under-11, U-13, U-15, U-17 and U-19 sections

Around 92 players from nine countries are taking part in tournament held in five age group categories. Players are competing in the Under-11, U-13, U-15, U-17 and U-19 sections.

Besides hosts Qatar, players from India, Pakistan, Iran, Nepal, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Armenia and Egypt, are vying for the top prize in the event.

Qatar Squash Association (QSA) is hosting two back-to-back tournaments for junior boys.

The Qatar Junior Open will be followed by the Doha Junior Open, which will also be a two-day event, and will take place from March 4 and 5.
