Dozens of Rwandan Rebels Surrender in Eastern Congo
(MENAFN- Saudi Press Agency) Seventy-five rebels surrendered in eastern Congo on Saturday, five days after the army launched an offensive against the group they belong to, dpa quoted a government spokesman as saying.
Some of the members of the Democratic Forces for the Liberation of Rwanda (FDLR) surrendered to the army and others to the United Nations mission in Congo, Lambert Mende told dpa from Kinshasa.
Intensive fighting was reported in Nord Kivu province, with army commander Bruno Mandevu saying rebels had been dislodged from some of their positions.
The FDLR includes Rwandan Hutus involved in the 1994 Rwandan genocide, which killed 800,000 Tutsis and moderate Hutus.
