Halal Qatar festival begins today

(MENAFN- The Peninsula) The fourth annual Halal Qatar festival which opens today at the southern part of Katara, will see 450 contestants from the GCC taking part in four categories.

The festival aims to revive and introduce ancestors' nomadic culture and tradition to the new generation and continues until March 9.

"The festival aims to link the past with the present, remember the life of the Bedouins and leave an imprint of this significant aspect of our culture in the minds of the new generation," said Dr Khalid bin Ibrahim Al Sulaiti, General Manager, Katara.

He said the festival will also shed light on the importance of raising animals and the role of breeders and shepherds in achieving self-reliance on animal products.

He said the previous three editions of the festival were a big success, gained good reputation and reflected the love of the people for their tradition and heritage, while this edition will be more distinct and better.

Khalid Al Shahwani, Chairman of the organising committee, said 20 participants are in barn activities, more than 100 in Al Mazad public auction, over 100 in the livestock owners and breeders' forum and 230 in Al Mazayen competition.

The participants in barn activities will receive QR10,000 each and priority is given to elders and those who have not participated before.

The auction will be held throughout the festival.

The first five winners will receive QR100,000; QR50,000; QR30,000; QR15,000 and QR10,000 respectively.

Another five will be chosen for a consolation prize of QR5,000 each. All winners will receive appreciation certificates and shields.
