Saudi- 250000 children suffer from ADHD
(MENAFN- Arab News) Some 250000 students in the Kingdom suffer from attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) a psychiatric therapist said quoting a recently published survey.
Abdul Samad Al-Jishi member of the Saudi Society of Psychiatry said about 5000 doctors were following treatment of these cases. Fifty percent of the students are vulnerable to expulsion from school than normal children while 30 percent of them drop out and only 5 percent of them consult medical clinics he said.
Al-Jishi said ADHD is a neurological and behavioral disorder which leads to difficulties in school and life and it affects both males and females. He linked the causes of ADHD to genetic psychological neurological biological and chemical factors.
Nagwa Mousa a medical expert ruled out parents' education watching television and electronic games as causes behind ADHD cases. Since factors of the disease are unknown parents have to follow up such cases and arrange medical visits to experts who may help in controlling and decreasing the effects she said.
