French Safran logs profit surge to USD1.4b in 2014

(MENAFN) French aircraft engine maker Safran, the supplier of aircraft giants Airbus and Boring, posted a 4.6 percent increase in profits to USD1.42 billion in 2014, AFP reported.

The company's chief executive officer (CEO) said that if it were not for the exceptional gain reported in the previous year, the firm would have scored a 17 percent profit increase.

In 2014, the firm's net income was actually a loss of USD143 million, due to a charge of USD2.15 billion to account for the euro's decline against the dollar in the past year.

"The order book has reached a record size... and profitability has increased 17 percent thanks to production rhythms never before reached," the CEO said at a news conference.
