Five held in Fujairah for daring money exchange, ATM robberies


(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) A gang of robbers has been busted with the arrest of five men - who allegedly robbed a money exchange, an ATM and a deposit machine belonging to Etisalat - in Fujairah.

The gang members - four Emiratis and an Asian - used a luxury car when they broke into the money exchange at night and made off with Dh160,421, in addition to foreign currencies. The money exchange robbery was reported on January 31. In February, the five-member gang surfaced in Dibba Fujairah, where they robbed an ATM containing Dh753,100 and Etisalat's auto deposit machine containing Dh14,500. After a thorough probe, the Fujairah Police zeroed in on the suspects and arrested them.

The police have recovered Dh253,100 from them in addition to foreign currencies.

The prime suspect owns a luxury car worth Dh195,000, which the police have seized. All five suspects have been referred to the public prosecution on charges of robbery and criminal trespass.

Colonel Humaid Mohammed Al Yamahi, Director-General of Police Operations, Fujairah Police, said the police will act as "a barrier against anyone who tries to harm the security of the emirate".

He lauded the cooperation of the Abu Dhabi Police and the Dubai Police in apprehending the suspects.
