Qatar- Emir meets homeland security secretary in US


(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Emir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani yesterday met at his residence US Secretary of Homeland Security, Jeh C Johnson.

Talks dealt matters of mutual interest and means of enhancing cooperation between the two countries. The Emir's delegation was present.

The Emir also attended a reception hosted by the US Chamber of Commerce, in cooperation with National Economic Council at Four Seasons Hotel in Washington.

Talks covered topics of mutual interest, especially economic ties and trade and means of promoting investment between both sides.

A memorandum of understanding was signed between Qatar Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the US chamber.

US Secretary of Trade Penny Pritzker, Senator John McCain, Chairman of Senate Armed Services Committee, business leaders, heads of major US companies and members of US-Qatar Business Council were present, along with the Emir's delegation.

The Emir attended part of a ceremony hosted by the Kuwaiti embassy to mark Kuwait's 54th National Day anniversary at Four Seasons Hotel.

The Emir congratulated Kuwaiti Ambassador Sheikh Salem Abdullah Al Jaber Al Sabah, and wished Kuwait further progress and prosperity under the leadership of Emir H H Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah and the Kuwaiti people further progress and prosperity.

The Emir also sent a cable of congratulations to Sheikh Sabah.

Meanwhile, Deputy Emir H H Sheikh Abdullah bin Hamad Al Thani sent a cable of congratulations to Sheikh Sabah on his country's National Day.

Prime Minister and Interior Minister H E Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani sent a similar cable.
