Qatar- Over 700 kids, families take part in 'Monster Makers Lab'

(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Over 700 children and their families participated in a 'Monster Makers Laboratory' organised by Qatar National Library (QNL).

It taught them the basic art of monster-making using rudimentary materials and geometrical shapes. Held at Recreation Centre at Qatar Foundation, in collaboration with Qatar Museums, the lab saw children aged three to 11 unleash creativity as part of the citywide 'Makers Event 2015', organised by Qatar Museums Family Programmes.

"To achieve its goal of bridging Qatar's past and present through knowledge, QNL is mindful of the fact that today's children are the future of Qatar, which makes them one of our prime audiences," said Carol Mitchell, Head, Children's Services, QNL. "We seek to engage youth in various ways, one of which is the lab which has succeeded in being a fun-filled family event, with an underlying educational element, we had envisioned and we are delighted with the turnout at our inaugural participation in 'Makers Event'."

Fahd bin Mohammed Al Kuwari, who accompanied three daughters to the lab, said, "I'm delighted that my girls have been able to express creativity through this event. I hope QNL organises more such activities regularly at a bigger place."

"This kind of event reinforces the importance of nurturing creativity in children," said parent, Bettina Bader. "Each child lives in their world, and it is our role as parents and a society to enable them to express creativity." Aimed to educate children through art and creative design, 'Makers Event 2015' saw cultural and educational institutions host programmes that allowed families to choose from opportunities to get creative. Under the theme of geometric shapes and patterns, 'Makers Event 2015' sought to encourage diverse approaches and interpretations to nurture and showcase the community's creativity. "In its second year, 'Makers Event' was a great success. We were pleased to be able to offer families unique workshops over the weekend, organised by organisations such as QNL," said Jessica Ludwig, Head of Families, Qatar Museums.
