ITA supports Arab Forum for the visually impaired held in Oman


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) In line with its eAccessibility policy to provide fair and equal life opportunities to persons with disabilities and the elderly people through the use of information and communication technology (ICT) the Information Technology Authority (ITA) supported the Arab Forum for the visually impaired which is being organised by Al Noor Association for the Blind at Majan Continental Hotel Muscat.

Post the opening ceremony the forum kicked off its discussion sessions featuring the topic of providing fair and equal job opportunities to persons with disabilities through the use of information and communication technologies (ICT). Three papers were presented in this regard from the Sultanate of Oman Qatar and UAE.

Mohammed Mohsen al Dhuhli general manager of governance & advisory division at ITA presented a paper titled 'Creating equal opportunities for people with visual disabilities through policies legislation and laws' where he highlighted the current situation of the visually impaired at the workplace and how to create and establish fair opportunities for them under the sultanate's legislation and policies.

Dhuhli also talked about ITA's eAccessibility policy which was adopted in September 2012 in cooperation and implementation with ten sectors namely communications social affairs transport internal affairs education health banking media workers and eGovernment.

It is worth mentioning that this eAccessibility initiative advocates the usability of products information or services based on information and communications technology (ICT) by persons with disabilities and the elderly in the same degree of effectiveness used by non-disabled persons.

'Government entities have to take the initiative to work on providing easy access to government services employ people with disabilities work on upgrading access to information and electronic government services to make it easy for people with disabilities and the elderly' Dhuli mentioned in his paper.
