EY Awards to honour top Omani students


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) The third EY Student Excellence Award (SEA) in Oman will be held at the InterContinental Muscat on April 21.

The award was instituted in 2012 to recognise Oman's top students across various universities. This year the award will evaluate students in three disciplines: Accounting finance and IT. The top five winners from each discipline will be offered an internship opportunity with EY or one of the companies associated with the award - bank Muscat BAE Systems Nama Group and Omantel.

Ahmed al Esry office managing partner EY Oman said 'We are very excited to be holding the SEA for the third year. This initiative aims to enhance the professional skills of students in the sultanate and recognise academic distinction. The SEA inspires and motivates young Omani graduate students to strive to achieve higher standards of excellence throughout their careers.'

As many as 11 universities are participating in this year's awards. The top five students in each discipline nominated by each of the participating universities (based on their GPA) will undergo an evaluation process designed by EY.

The finalists will be evaluated on their academic performance analytical skills subject knowledge communication and presentation skills. The evaluation consists of a technical test in accounting and finance in addition to an online IT test. The students will also be asked to write and present business plans and participate in a group discussion on a topic chosen by them. Personal interviews will be conducted at the end of the day.

The 11 selected universities and colleges identified for the awards include Sultan Qaboos University Higher College of Technology College of Banking and Financial Studies Majan College Modern College for Business and Science Waljat College of Applied Sciences Sohar University Nizwa College for Technology Middle East College Caledonian College for Engineering and GUTech.
