Gold ticks lower in New York

Gold prices edged lower on the Comex in New York overnight and finished off their session low after Federal Reserve Chairwoman Janet Yellen gave testimony to Congress.

Gold for April delivery settled down 0.3% at US$1197.30 an ounce. The contract dropped to an intraday low as Yellen’s prepared remarks hit but then recovered much of that slide.

Still gold suffered a third straight session of declines and it finished under the closely watched level of US$1200.

In other metals trading March silver was lower at US$16.19 an ounce.

March copper advanced by US$0.06 to US$2.65 a pound.

April platinum dipped by US$0.30 to settle at US$1162.60 an ounce while March palladium gained US$4.05 to US$790 an ounce.
