(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) With a Dh125,000 price tag and a team of security guards shadowing its every move, Vincent Van Gogh's famous 'Sunflowers' is coming to Dubai, and residents here will have the chance to own the one of a kind piece - well, kind of.
From Wednesday, Dubai will play host to the exclusive regional launch of the newly created Van Gogh Museum Relievo exhibition.
Nine ground-breaking 3D replicas of the artist's most famous workings have been given a twenty first century twist by art historians and museum experts from The Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam.
Recreated in size, colour, brightness and texture to achieve the ultimate fine art feel, the paintings may not be the real McCoy, but with Van Gogh's own great grandnephew, Vincent Willem Van Gough, personally escorting the pieces, they are bound to be high quality replicas fit for any art enthusiast's wall.
Hosted by Axel Rüger, the Director of the Van Gogh Museum and Vincent Willem at Fairmont The Palm, art lovers in Dubai will be able to buy the exclusive pieces which will remain on display till March 31.
The museum has commissioned 260 copies of each painting for worldwide sales, with each carrying its own serial number. And true to Dubai's style, buyers here are expected to snap up the higher numbered pieces, as these are the most sought after.
All pieces will be priced at Dh125,000, but one exhibition promoter told Khaleej Times that as time progresses, the secondary market could be affected by the higher numbers should people want to sell on in the future.
Speaking ahead of Relievo's Dubai debut, Rüger said the fine-art replicas will enable onlookers to "enjoy the passion of Van Gogh, the brightness of his colours and the energy of his brushstrokes" in your own environment.
