Holidaying woman cop jailed for sick note forgery

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) A policewoman, who sent another woman to different health centres to apply for and receive four sick leave certificates in her name while she was holidaying in Thailand, has been sentenced to one year in jail by the Court of First Instance.

The court heard that the 28-year-old Emirati cop had got consecutive sick leave certificates from a clinic, a hospital and a medical centre.

She coerced an unknown woman into going to the health centres to get sick leaves in her name. She then submitted the certificates to her workplace to justify her extended leave.

A police major said he was running a random check on the staff's leaves when he noticed that the accused submitted four different sick leave certificates from November 10 to 14 last year.

"We verified her travel movements in our database and found she left the country to Thailand on November 5 and returned on the 15th of the same month."

When the major sent for her in May 2014 and questioned her how she submitted those sick leaves reports while she was out of the UAE, she simply said she was wrong. A letter from the Dubai Heath Authority confirmed the certificates were authentic. The verdict is subject to appeal within 15 days.
