Kuwait donates USD 500,000 to fight AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Kuwait's permanent delegate to the UN Office in Geneva Ambassador Jamal Al-Ghoneim delivered here on Monday a USD 500,000 donation to the Executive Director of Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria Mark Dybul.

In a statement to KUNA, Al-Ghoneim stressed that Kuwait is keen on financing the fund's activities that fight most deadly epidemics in Central Asia and Africa.

The fund has succeeded so far in treating and diagnosing more than 9 million cases of tuberculosis and in protecting roughly 270 million people from being infected with malaria, he said.

Kuwait's dotation to the fund has reached so far about USD five million, he said, noting this contribution reflects the country's outstanding role in humanitarian action.

On his part, Dybul voiced his gratitude to Kuwait's effort for financing the fund's programs at a very critical time.

He said some money will fund programs allocated to Syrian refugees diagnosed with tuberculosis in Lebanon, adding the fund's projects in general are directed to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) member states.
