German Rail Union Settles with Employers to Avert Strike

(MENAFN- Saudi Press Agency) The German Train Drivers' Union (GDL) confirmed on Monday that they have reached a settlement with the state German railway company Deutsche Bahn, averting a threatened strike.
'Yes, we have an agreement,' a GDL spokesman said in Frankfurt. Deutsche Bahn had earlier confirmed that the threatened strike action had been averted.
Pay talks are scheduled to resume on Thursday.
The spokesman said that talks had led to 'results' over the future pay deal structure.
The union decided last week that it would go on strike in the dispute over demands for shorter working hours and a pay rise of 5 per cent, but did not decide when or for how long.
The GDL held strikes in the autumn which caused widespread disruption.
