Explosion at oil company kills two in southern India
(MENAFN- The Peninsula) An explosion at lubricants maker Gulf Oil Corp's unit in southern India killed two people and injured at least 13 others late Monday, police said.
Police said the explosion at Gulf Oil, which sells lubricants and industrial explosives in India and overseas, took place after detonators were being disposed of at its office located in the southern Indian city of Hyderabad in Andhra Pradesh state.
"Two workers died and at least 13 others who suffered burn injuries have been rushed to different hospitals. The fire that broke out after the explosion has been controlled," senior police officer Kartikeya, who like many Indians goes by one name, told the Press Trust of India.
A massive explosion on a state-owned gas pipeline running through Andhra Pradesh killed some 19 people and gutted scores of homes last June.
