Qatar- US mission hosts National Day reception


(MENAFN- The Peninsula) The US Embassy hosted a National Day reception, coinciding with US Presidents' Day on Sunday at Sheraton Doha Hotel.

Ambassador Dana Shell Smith welcomed the guests H E Abdullah bin Hamad Al Attiyah, Chairman, Administrative Control and Transparency Authority; H E Sheikh Abdulrahman bin Khalifa Al Thani, Minister of Municipality and Urban Planning; H E Dr Hamad bin Abdulaziz Al Kuwari, Minister of Culture, Arts and Heritage; H E Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Rumaihi, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Ibrahim Fahkroo, Chief of Protocol and Ambassador Ali Ibrahim Ahmed, Dean of the Diplomatic Corps, along with distinguished array of Qatari leadership, diplomats, and business and education leaders who came to honour Presidents' Day and the strong US-Qatar bilateral relationship.

Ambassador Smith invited the guests to recognize the lives and achievements of the 44 diverse presidents who shaped American history, and to celebrate the strong ties that bind the United States and Qatar. Citing a shared value of hospitality, Ambassador Smith thanked Qatar for the warm welcome she has received since her arrival in Doha last August.

She applauded Qatar's outstanding and continued partnership in addressing a great many pressing challenges and said, "While we live in challenging times, one thing is certain: the US and Qatar are both indispensable to any solutions. And in partnership, the opportunities for success are endless."

Ambassador Smith returned to Washington yesterday to join President Barack Obama in welcoming the Emir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al Thani, on his first visit to the White House as Emir.
