Strong winds to continue, thundershowers forecast for some parts of Oman


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Several parts of Oman including the capital region experienced poor visibility and cloudy weather caused by a dust storm on Sunday.

Similar conditions are likely to prevail over the next 24 hours with chances of isolated rainfall and thundershowers the Met office has said. Strong winds and rain have been forecast for Sur North and South Sharqiyah.

Coastal areas may receive thundershowers. Visibility is likely to drop further and temperature could fall a senior official from the Directorate General for Meteorology and Air Navigation said. 'There will be dark clouds over northern Oman with chances of isolated rain and occasional thundershowers over coastal areas of Oman and the Al Hajar Mountains.

The north-westerly winds will cause more dust storms and low horizontal visibility in most parts. Clouds will be seen throughout Monday and wind speed will be high.' Onsunday the swirling dust picked up by strong winds made driving risky. Sultan Khalfan a businessman who drives to Muttrah from Azaiba for work said his trip was delayed by several hours due to crawling traffic. 'People were driving very slowly as it is very difficult to see the road ahead.'

A home maker said she had a tough time keeping her house clean as the wind kept bringing in dust and dried leaves into her compound. 'Fine dust settled on the furniture even with the doors and windows closed' said the home maker from Ruwi.
