Qatar- Desert wins for Preston, Abou Shaibah, Abu Issa


(MENAFN- The Peninsula) The Qatar International Endurocross, organized by Qatar Motor and Motorcycle Federation (QMMF), attracted plenty of drama and racing thrill at Sealine with the participation of 44 competitors from different nationalities.

KTM rider Jake Preston won both races in the E2 category, taking the lead in both races and had an easy win to this fifth victory of the season.

Preston now leads the E2 category with 145 points, 16 points ahead of Mohammed Jaffar who finished second in the podium.

"Round 3 was really good. I managed to get a good start in the first moto and it's good because I didn't get stuck behind with the fastest rider," Preston said.

"In moto 2, the track was really hard but it was a challenge. The track today was really long, longer that last time but it was good. I enjoyed it. QMMF put again a great event,' Preston added after the podium ceremony.

Kuwaiti KTM rider Jaffar had a tough fight in both races with his coach Mohammed Al Balooshi and the competition between them was so hard and to the limit that in the race 2 both riders hit together and Balooshi crashed finishing in fifth position.

"Today I had a lot of bike issues. In the first race I broke the fourth gear so I had to finish the race with the 3rd and 5th gears, and it was an impossible mission but I finished second," Jaffar said.

The third place in the E2 race was secured by Abdullah Al Shatti.

In the E1 category, Kuwaiti rider Meshari Abou Shaibah won the two races and increased his lead in the championship. The Yamaha rider has won all the races from the start of the season in is in front of the championship with 150 points.

Compatriot Moath Al Ansari finished in second position in the podium and Barak Al Jasmi, also from Kuwait, finished in third place.

In the veteran's category, Mubarak Al Ali from UAE won the race. Yannic Le Gourvenec from France finished second and Saif Al Kumiti, also from theUAE, was third.

Qatari rider Mohammed Abu Issa won both races in the quads category.

Abu Issa finished ahead of British rider Paul Holmes.

"I really enjoyed the race today and it is such a great event. QMMF organizes so many great events but this one is very unique," Abu Issa said.

"I am very happy to see that the event is growing so fast and hope more riders will join us. It is an honour for me to represent Qatar in such races," he added.

The third quad rider classified was Abdullah Nasser from UAE.

The next and last round will be on March 14, organisers said.
