(MENAFN- Emirates News Agency (WAM)) The Secretary-General of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, OIC, Iyad Ameen Madani, has highlighted the importance of concerted international efforts in the fight against terrorism and terrorist acts.
According to the Saudi Press Agency, SPA, during a reception hosted by Adel bin Ahmed Al-Jubeir, KSA Ambassador to the US yesterday at the Embassy headquarters in Washington, in the attendance of a number of ambassadors from different Islamic countries, Madani said, ''The terrorist groups have distorted Islam, calling for the need to face these challenges, to clarify and to prove the fact that the Islamic religion is the religion of peace and mercy.'' He also gave an explanation about OIC objectives, its international role and its efforts in international forums and to transfer the views of Islamic countries in various issues. He pointed out the organisation's involvement in the fight against terrorism, adding that the OIC was one of the first organisations that warned of terrorism and called to fight it.
Madani added that the organisation will attend a number of important meetings today to discuss the fight against terrorism with delegations of other participating countries.
