US elaborates on guidelines for sale of drones


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) The US further detailed the guiding principles for the sale of drones or Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) to ally nations under international humanitarian law.

Pentagon Spokesperson John Kirby told reporters on Wednesday that recipients are not to use drones to "conduct unlawful surveillance or use unlawful force against their domestic populations" and must provide unmanned operators, "the technical and doctrinal training on the use of these systems." He continued, "as it is in any foreign military sales program, each case would be examined individually and very scrupulously before a decision got made to actually transfer." The State Department have said earlier it will monitor in the use of these devices to which Kirby affirmed, "it's in our best interest to be able to have this kind of control, supervision, and scrutiny over the potential delivery of these systems because it's a ubiquitous, now, capability".
