PM, Egyptian Petroleum minister discuss energy cooperation


(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour on Wednesday met with the Egyptian Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Sherif Ismail, in the presence of the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Mohammad Hamid, and the Egyptian Ambassador in Amman, Khaled Tharwat.

Talks during the meeting dealt with ways to boost cooperation between the two countries in the energy field.

Ensour reviewed the burden being shouldered by Jordan as a result of the rise in the energy bill and its impact on the budget deficit.

He also highlighted the strong ties between Jordan and Egypt in various domains, stressing the importance of boosting cooperation in the energy field to ensure energy security.

The Egyptian minister spoke about plans and programs of the Egyptian government to address the increasing demand on energy, in addition to projects that will be implemented in this regard.

The governments of Jordan, Egypt and Iraq signed a Memorandum of Understanding in Amman last year to cooperate in the oil and natural gas field.
