(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) A warehouse supervisor of the Dubai Cooperative Society for Fishermen stood trial on Wednesday for allegedly embezzling Dh11,497 and shrimp boxes worth Dh76,000.
The 43-year-old Egyptian has also been charged in the Court of First Instance with forcible entry into the warehouse and stealing shrimp boxes worth more than Dh16,215.
The accused is believed to have abused his post and duties of distributing fish to restaurants and food outlets by embezzling goods.
He allegedly committed the crime from March to September last year.
He reportedly admitted in the investigation to the charges of embezzling funds belonging to a public corporation and damaging a public property.
He said that he sold the stolen shrimp to a restaurant for Dh8,460.
He confessed that he sold quantities of shrimp on different occasions to a restaurant and pocketed a Dh76,000 without putting it on record.
He admitted that he did not deliver the sales bills to his workplace as he should have done as per procedure.
He also reportedly admitted that he did not return the keys of the warehouse's freezer, which he had been given, to the administration.
He broke into the warehouse at night by breaking its locks with a sharp tool and then opened the freezer, with the keys that he kept, to steal the goods for his own benefit.
