Attack on police headquarter kills 20 policemen in Afghanistan


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) At least twenty policemen were killed and nine others wounded after a group of insurgents stormed the police headquarters in central Logar province of Afghanistan on Tuesday, said officials.

The governorآ's spokesman, Din Mohammad Darwesh confirmed the casualties in the attack that took place in Pul-i-Alam, the capital of Logar, east of Kabul.

He told media that one of the attackers detonated his explosives at the entrance gate while three others forced their way inside the facility. Two of the attackers detonated their explosives inside the headquarters while the last one blew himself up inside the canteen, he added.

Logar Police Chief, Abdul Hakim Ishaqzai confirming the casualties said that the attack came at a time when police personnel were gathered for lunch in the canteen. The security forces cordoned off the area and a probe into the incident went underway.

The surge in Taliban attacks on security forces has increased since the withdrawal of foreign troops after 13 years of war handing over the security control to Afghan national forces.
