EU encourages political dialogue to resolve Libyan crisis

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) The EU Tuesday urged different political parties in Libya to participate in the dialogue managed by the Special representative of the UN Secretary General for Libya, Bernardino Leon.

"We support the process being led by the UN. The EU is convinced that the military option would not solve the conflict but we need to encourage all means of dialogue. At this stage that position remains the same," Catherine Ray, spokesperson for EU High Representative Federica Mogherini told a news conference here today.

She said that Mogherini met yesterday evening in Madrid Bernardino Leon and discussed the recent dramatic developments and the need to increase the diplomatic work to unite the different Libyan parties in a common effort to face the threat of the ISIL.

"Mogherini is following this issue very closely and continues to have close contacts daily between the different stake holders," said the spokesperson and added that the EU foreign policy chief also spoke to Egyptian oreign minister Sameh Shoukry and US secretary of State John Kerry.

Mogherini will travel tomorrow Wednesday to Washington for the summit against terrorism where she will meet the different players personally to discuss possible actions with them on how to manage the Libyan crisis, said Ray.
