Kuwait- Senior GCC, Australian officials hold cooperation talks


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Senior GCC and Australian officials held talks in the Australian capital Canberra as part of joint dialogue on various issues of common concern.

The State of Kuwait Ambassador to Australia, Khaled Al-Shibani, told KUNA by telephone, the meeting, held late on Tuesday, was part strategic dialogue dealing, launched in 2011, tackling various political, economic and cultural affairs of common concern.

GCC-Australian ties have noticeably improved, said Ambassador Al-Shibani, noting that trade exchanges between the two sides climbed from USD four billion in 2001 to USD 12 billion in 2014, in addition to tangible growth of joint investments.

Moreover, number of GCC students enrolled at Australian universities has increased to 13,000.

The meeting involved the GCC assistant secretary general for external affairs, Abdulaziz Al-Uwaisheq, and representatives of the GCC countries' foreign ministries. Present from Kuwait was the Kuwaiti ambassador, the deputy director of the foreign ministry's GCC affairs department, Abdullah Al-Mawe'd.
